Over the years Columbia Legal Services (CLS) has continuously worked to hold ourselves accountable to principles of race equity and human rights. Like many other organizations, we took a variety of steps like forming volunteer committees, attending trainings, and reading articles, but in 2016 we began to chart a different course. Since then, we have struggled, grown, faced conflict, and continue to embrace the journey of making race equity a priority externally AND internally.
CLS staff have spoken at a variety of events and written articles about our race equity advocacy and our work to grow as individuals and as an organization to fight racism at all levels. We want to share what we have learned along the way, what we would do differently, and our hope for the future with other people and organizations who are on the same journey.
Please join me August 18 at 1pm PST as I moderate a panel of CLS advocates, who will share their experiences on this journey towards race equity.
In solidarity,
Merf Ehman
Executive Director
