On September 8, community organizers and CLS staff joined together to share our knowledge and experiences with documenting violations of the Keep Washington Working Act – which prevents local and state governmental agencies, including law enforcement, from collaborating with federal agencies to harass and detain immigrant community members. Together with the University of Washington’s Center for Human Rights, we talked about the state Department of Licensing’s complicity with immigration enforcement by failing to close database loopholes which place citizenship information in the hands of federal law enforcement and strategized how organized communities can use their collective power to push back against ICE’s actions in our communities.  We are so proud to be working alongside Yakima’s incredible community activists!
