Dear Friend,
We’re pleased to share that Columbia Legal Services has appointed Jen Werdell as our new Interim Executive Director following an extensive and thoughtful search process. She will join the team in January 2026.
Jen brings more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit and legal aid sector, with deep expertise in executive coaching, organizational strategy, HR, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She holds a J.D., a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology, and a SHRM-SCP certification.
Many in Washington’s legal aid community already know Jen for her reflective, trauma-informed approach to leadership. She has worked closely with CLS and our statewide partners in recent years, supporting leadership development, equity integration, and organizational healing. Jen’s blend of systems-thinking, compassion, and values-aligned strategy makes her an ideal leader to guide CLS through this interim period.
Under Jen’s leadership, CLS will strengthen its foundation for the future—aligning our work, people, and resources to deepen impact and sustain our fight for justice across Washington. Jen is expected to serve in this role through 2026, after which CLS will begin a search for a permanent Executive Director.
We are excited for what lies ahead and grateful for the continued support of our community as we move forward in this next chapter.
In partnership,
The Board and Staff of Columbia Legal Services
